Mark Keam runs for office

Cameron Joonooo's favorite uncle, Mark Keam is running for the office of delegate for commonwealth of Virginia.

Uncle Mark is sure to be the winner this November!! If elected, he will be the first Asian-American as well as Korean-American to be elected into House of Delegates (like California state congress) in Virginia. Uncle Mark has worked hard in public sector all his adult life. We want to see that he represent "little people" like me!!!

We love you, uncle Mark!!!

an excerpt from uncle Mark's website...

I’m Mark Keam, and I’m running for the Virginia House of Delegates to fill the seat being vacated by our Democratic Delegate Steve Shannon, who is running to be our next Attorney General.  I hope you will support me in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, June 9, 2009.

I live in Vienna with my wife, Alex, and our two children, Tyler and Brenna, who both attend Marshall Road Elementary.  After graduating from law school 14 years ago, I moved to Northern Virginia to work for the federal government.  I was an attorney at the Federal Communications Commission, and later, was a policy counsel at the Small Business Administration.  There, I fought to create a level playing field for women-owned businesses and minority enterprises.

When President Clinton left office, I moved to Capitol Hill to serve as Chief Counsel to Democratic Senator Dick Durbin on the Senate Judiciary Committee.  There, I helped fight the right wing agenda of the Bush Administration, including many of their judicial appointments.

I’ve lived the American Dream.  I was born in Korea and lived in Vietnam and Australia as a young boy before my family immigrated to America.  We came here with nothing, but we were provided many opportunities.  Now, I want a chance to give back to the community that has given so much to me and to my family.

In Northern Virginia, we cherish our safe neighborhoods, great schools, and wonderful quality of life.  I want to go to Richmond and fight for the values and priorities important to families in Vienna, Oakton, Fairfax, and Dunn Loring.  During these tough economic times, we need to work harder than ever to ensure that we in Northern Virginia receive our fair share of funding for transportation and education.  We need to make government more cost efficient and provide critical investments to ensure a strong economic future for the Commonwealth.

Too many politicians in Richmond become caught up in ideological battles that prevent change from happening.  Delegate Steve Shannon has set a great example with his common-sense approach to solving problems and serving constituents.  If you give me the honor of serving as your next Delegate, I will continue this tradition of responsible leadership...
